What Does It Take?
Pick. Pull. Lay. Roll. Rinse. Dry. Just Like life really.
This page is dedicated to the process. See what it takes to create a wonderful piece of wet felting. For obvious reasons some of the magical processes have been left out of the process, including any footage of all the singing, dancing and laughter!
First part of the process. Depending on the product and your input we select the best materials from our vast array. From wools, threads and textures to organic materials, images and magic. You decide the ingredients.
Next step is pulling or you could call it teasing. At this stage all the materials are pulled to spread the denisty and lighten the colour and weight of the wools. A crucial stage in creating a great product.
Layers are built gradually blending colours and the desired thickness of the finished piece. At this stage background colours are used to build artwork pieces and other textual elements and materials are sandwiched together.
Every piece Sheepy Chic create is rolled by hand with love. This is usually the stage the music is turned up and the dancing begins. This stage is aguebly the most crucial step and we believe sets us apart from other ‘mass’ produced felted products. It can take up to 800 rolls by hand to create some of the larger products!
No chemicals or additives are used in this stage. Just pure H2O and vigorous frothing helps to force all the soap and excess fibers from the finished piece. A gentle squeeze and its ready for the next step.
Time to add the final ingredients, the wind and the Cornish sun. We hang all products a certain way to avoid any stretching or distortion. We take a pinch of patience, a large mug of tea and allow nature to dry our beautiful products in her own time.
